Fire stopping and penetration sealing is the process of preserving the fire resisting performance of walls, floors and roofs where voids exist, or services have been installed. These fire stopping measures are designed to restrain the growth and spread of fire, allowing the building occupants time to escape safely.
Modern buildings are packed full of services, cables and wires. Fire stopping in Panama is vital to the stability and integrity of a building or structure in case of fire. It must be able to achieve the required degree of containment and reduce the temperature rise.
Therefore, all gaps and openings must be sealed to avoid the spread through penetrations and cavities.
We are specialists in providing qualified, tested and approved systems for the widest variety of penetrating items and conditions, including head of wall, perimeter or expansion joint treatments. Every system we design is created to maintain the integrity of the wall or floor that’s being penetrated.

Head of Wall Compartmentation
When fire rated walls intersect the underside of a concrete deck, metal deck, or other fire rated floor/ceiling assembly, the joint between the top-of-wall and floor/ceiling must be firestopped to maintain the rating of the fire rated wall assembly.
Saxon’s extensive experience in passive fire protection enables us to give expert advice on choosing the most cost effective and most suited product for your project’s needs.
BENEFITS
- Provides up to 4 hours protection
- Acoustically absorbent
- Suitable for penetration and linear joints
- CE Marked
- Both vertical and horizontal joint applications
- Tested for durability to current EU guidelines
- Supplied Pre-Coated FIRESTOP BLOCKS
Linear and Trapezoidal Firestops, provide firestopping at the junctions of compartment walls and floors. Tested to BS476: Part 20: 1987, they provide up to 4 hours fire protection.
Service Penetration Sealing
Penetration sealing is a term used to describe a wide variety of fire stopping systems. These have been approved to seal a gap thus ensuring a building’s fire integrity and safety.
Mechanical, electrical and structural components often pass through Fire Rated walls and floors, which can impair the structure’s fire integrity. Often times, gaps can also be left from poor construction. This leaves a fire risk which needs to be mitigated.
Every service is different and fire resistant building elements all react in different ways when exposed to fire. It is important to gain correct support from professional, experienced fire penetration installation experts. We have a long standing professionalism in the industry and are highly qualified in this field.
Linear Gap Sealing
Linear Gap Seals are a range of Fire Proof Systems used to seal technological gaps within the fabric of the building. They are designed to stop the spread of fire while allowing the structure to expand and contract as engineered.
The Advantages of Linear Gap Sealing are;
• Up to 4 hours fire rating.
• Intumescent is robust, therefore ‘non-flaking’ and is difficult to tear.
• It is unaffected by water.
• You can fill various gap sizes.
• It is suitable for internal or external application.
Ablative Coated Batt
The Ablative Coated Batt acts as an air seal barrier to reinstate the fire resistance and acoustic performances of concrete floors, masonry walls and dry wall systems, following the creation of voids for the passage of services.
BENEFITS
• Up to 4 hours fire performance
• Lightweight and simple to install
• No maintenance required
• Tested for airtightness
• Fire compound
• Duct protection
Compound
Compounds are used to provide a fire rated seal around service penetrations in fire rated walls and floors. Tested in accordance with BS 476:Part 22, PFC Compounds provide up to 6 hours fire protection.
General benefits:
• Smoke seal
• Good acoustic insulation
• Simple installation
• Load bearing seal for maintenance and light foot traffic
• Suitable for making good around most types of service penetrations
• Unaffected by humidity
• Maintenance free
• No smoke emission
• Approved for use on London Underground projects
Description
Compounds are a specially formulated gypsum based mortar, which is mixed with water to be trowelled or poured around service penetrations. Plastic pipework must be protected with either Collars or Intumescent Pipe Wraps (see technical data sheets). In floors, depending on the hole size, PFC Corofil permanent shuttering panel (50mm) is cut and friction fitted between services and the edges of the floor slab. Firestop Compound is then trowelled over the shuttering to a depth of 25mm thick and is allowed to harden. The Firestop Compound is then mixed to a pouring grade and tops the seal up to the required depth. In walls, Firestop Compound is mixed into a stiff consistency for trowelling into smaller openings. In larger openings, Firestop Compound may be cast into blocks which are built into walls.
Specification
Compounds can provide up to 6 hours fire protection to all service penetrations through fire rated walls and floors. Installation to be fully in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

Slab Edge Firestopping
Is a product designed to form cavity fire stops within buildings. It is a one-piece system enabling easy cutting and installation, and also provides a unique lateral compression to facilitate a tight fit. Saxon can recommend a product that can be installed horizontally or vertically and is suitable for cavity widths between 50mm and 400mm in both masonry and curtain wall constructions. Our slab edge systems can withstand substantial tolerance to movement in tall buildings and deliver superior noise reduction values, as well as preventing the spread of fire and smoke.
BENEFITS
• Up to 2 hours fire resistance
• Resists the passage of smoke
• Easy to cut and install
• Suitable for cavity widths up to 400mm
